Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail HoneymanMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
When I first started reading this book I wasn't sure how I felt about it. At the beginning of the book the protagonist, Eleanor Oliphant is a complete mess. She's anxious, antisocial, and says whatever comes to mind. Her office mates, childish as it may be, mock her - sometimes right to her face. As the book progresses and we learn more of the backstory the reasons why become clearer.
For some inexplicable reason the new IT guy, Raymond, is drawn to Eleanor. Perhaps he finds her another lonely kindred spirit. He ignores her blunt exterior and a tentative friendship begins. This is not a spoiler as it's in the blurb.
Seeing the friendship blossom between the unlikely pair is part of the ultimate charm of the book. It was also unintentionally (maybe intentionally) hilarious to see Eleanor put herself into new situations because she had been an intentional hermit for most of her adult life.
In the end, I gave four stars. Eleanor grew on me and in the end, I was rooting for her.
