The House of TwelveThe House of Twelve by Sean Davies
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Twelve strangers wake up in a strange place with no memory of who or where they are. There is a bizarre clock, music droning in the background, and a Book of Rules. The rules tell them that there is no escape unless they redeem themselves or die trying. Each night if they haven't figured out the solution one of them must die or they all die.

As each night comes, survival instincts take over, alliances are formed and broken. Will they ever figure out the secret or will they all die?

This was a fairly short book so I read it all in one sitting. The author did a decent job of mounting and maintaining a sense of foreboding and terror. The premise reminded me a little bit of Natali's film Cube or even Saw - strangers forced into a situation of life and death by an outside agency; who then have to figure out how to escape (or if there is an escape). I feel like with slightly better editing this three-star book could become a four-star book. It needs a little tightening up, and the paranormal aspect could be better developed.

I received a free review copy of this book from Voracious Readers on request in return for the promise of an honest review.
