Review: The Broken Girls

The Broken Girls The Broken Girls by Simone St. James
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book grabbed me right from chapter one and it didn't let up until I was finished. It's one of the best paranormal mysteries that I've read in a long time. The action alternates the nineteen fifties and the present day. It's Idlewild Hall that ties them together. In the '50's Idlewild was a boarding school for wayward girls while in the present day it is a rotting hulk where protagonist Fiona's sister was found dead on the grounds after being murdered by her boyfriend.

Fiona is a journalist. Even though she usually writes fluffy human interest pieces, her father was a famous investigative journalist and she has his instincts. She wants to know the truth about her sister, and when she finds out that a philanthropist has purchased Idlewild and is planning to restore it she is curious about the reasons why.

During her investigation, she discovers the truth, about her sister, about Idlewild, and about everything.
