Down the Rabbit Hole January Bookbox Unboxing/Gift Reveal

Remember a couple of posts ago where I was talking about the January book from the Down the Rabbit Hole bookbox?

The book was The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward.

And I said the blurb sounded a little ridiculous because of the bible reading cat.

Well, let me tell you. What a red herring!

I ended up loving it.

I thought I had it all figured out and then I ended up being wrong. I LOVE THAT! That hardly ever happens anymore. I love it when an author can throw me for a loop. The twist ended up being a good one and those last few chapters had me reevaluating how I felt about all of the characters.  Sundial is moving up some notches on my TBR pile.

Here's what the box looked like when I opened it. There was the book, 5 wrapped packages, a book mark that goes with the book, a playlist (that I didn't much care for but it was a nice touch) and a pamphlet with some author facts.

As I read through the book I got to a page that was marked with a post it note that told me which package to open.

I didn't cheat. I read and opened when it told me to and I enjoyed the experience. The gifts were a combination of fun, cute, and useful.

First up we had this really cute wooden kitty keychain.

The characters are at the sea shore and there is a little souvenir stand that sells "little key chains carved from local forest pine"

Ted is entranced by a cat key chain. He loves cats. He desperately wants a cat but his parents won't let him have one so this key chain is the next best thing.

But his mom says no. Then yes. Then she does something pretty shitty which I won't explain because it would be a spoiler.

Cute and fun, not particularly useful, but I want to hang it off my rear view mirror.

Gift 2 was these super cute socks. I love socks!!

On page 185, Lauren is crying because there are holes in her socks so Ted takes her to the mall to buy some clothes.

I wore the pink and brown ones the other day and they were comfortable.

Cute, fun, and useful.

Gift 3.

On page 217 we hear about little girls and their pink barrettes.

These are cute. Not particularly useful to me, but I did actually wear one because I haven't worn barrettes since I was, I dunno, 10, maybe 12.

I'm not sure that these are ever coming out of the drawer again but not all of the add-ons are going to be winners.

Gift 4.

This one is hilarious, at least to me. I was explaining the concept to my husband and talking about the other things that came in the box and how I thought this concept was just as fun as Creepy Crate or whatever and how even though the gifts aren't horror themed I've really liked what I've opened so far (even the barrettes).

And he say "but what if the next thing is a knife, what's going to happen then?" and I head off to bed to read for a while before sleeping.

I had to text him from bed to ask him if he was psychic.

On page 251, Olivia the cat is saying "she'll get a knife" and here we have the exclusive Olivia the cat and her knife pin! This is awesome and I adore it. This pin, the kitty keychain and the socks totally made this worth it to me and I still have one gift to go.

Gift 5.

Is this awesome black cat, mushroom, and leaves tote bag. I'm a knitter. I can ALWAYS use another project bag.

This book box was supremely awesome and I can't wait to receive next months.

February's book is Perfume by Patrick Suskind. I've read it, but I want to read it again, and I can't wait to see what items come with.
