Shadow Man by Cody McFadyenMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
Shadow Man is the first book in the Smoky Barrett series.
It's hard to believe this is a debut novel. It's also hard to believe I haven't picked it up before now. I really liked this book and these characters. I am absolutely going to read the other novels in the series, and then when I'm done, hope for more to come.
Smoky Barrett was an FBI agent, and she was one of the best that is until a personal tragedy causes her to lose everything. As a result she is horribly scarred, both physically and emotionally. The opening segment of the story deals with the aftermath of her tragedy and her struggle not to commit suicide. She is finally ready to face her team and consider a slow return to work when tragedy strikes again in the form of the brutal murder containing a special message just for Smoky.
Tossed headlong back into the world of serial murder Smoky is working against the clock to keep her team safe, and keep herself from a slow descent into insanity.
This novel is brutal and intense and takes the reader on a roller coaster ride. It may be too graphic and disturbing for some.
