The Devil's Prayer by Luke GraciasMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
The Devil's Prayer is a suspense thriller that reminded me very much of novels by Dan Brown and Steve Berry. It all starts with a nun who commits suicide. The protagonist, Siobhan Russo, discovers that the nun is no other than her mother. A mother who disappeared years before leaving Siobhan and her younger sister to be raised by their grandmother.
Siobhan is desperate to find some answers to the questions that have been haunting her ever since her mother ran away and left them. And she does, but they are more than she ever bargained for. Her mother has kept a diary, which details everything, including her deal with the devil. Was she crazy? As Siobhan is chased through Europe by red-clad monks she begins to believe.
Well researched, the book has plenty of historical facts. At times, there are so many names and places it gets a little confusing. Overall, I found the story very interesting and suspenseful and I was a tiny bit disappointed that the ending is a cliffhanger. Some of the threads are neatly tied up, but we never do find out what Siobhan is going to do with her new knowledge. I'm hoping that the author has a second book in the works.
I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review.
